Founded in 2014, the seven-year-old startup, Urban Company reports to having over 40,000 services professionals listed on its platform for beauty and home segments, of which both contribute 50-50 to their revenue.
Current home-related services offered on their platforms are cleaning, plumbing, carpentry, appliance repair, painting and more. The company claims to have added over 10,000 professionals since 2020. Khaitan, one of the co-founders was interviewed for Business Insider that that their business is currently two-fold of what it was pre-pandemic (February 2020).
To expand further the startup is testing out several new services in both sectors. Urban Company is starting to do appliance repairs over video call. Professionals will be able to guide a customer on how to repair certain electronics and appliances over video calls.
COVID-19 has permanently changed habits in several segments. Convenience and pricing offered by Urban Company has the potential to cause that change in habit. Technology and operations come together to give great customer experience, it creates a whole new channel and more opportunities for services providers.
