Electrolux launches Appliance Service Program to Promote a Circular Economy

Electrolux is introducing a new “Appliance-as-a-Service” program for landlords in Europe. They have just signed their first customer in Sweden—Stockholms Kooperativa Bostadsförening (SKB), one of the largest landlords there.

SKB is onboard with a subscription-based business model where they pay a monthly fee for Electrolux to install, care for and repair their products. This program should prolong the appliance life length and reduce the carbon footprint in each building. Electrolux will also oversee refurbishment or product recycling appliance replacement is needed.

Currently approximately 68% of Swedish landlords* throw out products unnecessarily which adds to environmental impact. A broken appliance needing repair or replacement is a hassle and can become difficult for landlords. Adding to that tenants need to be able to cook, clean dishes and wash their clothes too.

Electrolux is a global leader in household appliances and they have a great opportunity to help create a more sustainable and enjoyable living for more people around the world.

Electrolux introduced the For the Better 2030, which defines how they work to achieve a Better Company, Better Solutions and Better Living. The Appliance-as-a-Service program for landlords is an example of a ‘Better Solution’ that promotes the circular economy and enables consumers to live more sustainably.

It is great seeing a company like Electrolux that is committed to contributing to the circular economy.  The new program is available to all developers and landlords; private, municipal, cooperative as well as new building projects and student homes. The program is starting in Europe and will be rolled out across additional markets later this year.

*Vinnova was a joint research project in Sweden, where three landlords and Electrolux interviewed the 24 largest social landlords (“Vitvarubaserade funktionstjänster för bostadsbolag”, 2019).
