GE returns to Connecticut and sets up the appliance business in Stamford to promote manufacturing

General Electric Co announced it’s establishing a presence in Stamford, more than four years after leaving Fairfield for Boston.

GE Appliances, which sold to Haier, will launch CoCREATE Stamford next year, featuring kitchen appliance manufacturing and will employ 25 workers.

GE Appliances will manufacture in a micro-factory their small appliances and will house a community that invites collaboration with engineers on new innovations and ideas.

The company announced last year it will resume making small appliances that halted in the 80’s.

GE Appliances also will work with Connecticut State Colleges and Universities to provide opportunities for students interested in engineering, business and manufacturing.

GE moved to Boston in 2017, abandoning its 43-year-old Fairfield headquarters in search of a business environment. It was reported the company was attracted to Boston’s high-tech economy, lots of colleges and universities and significant spending by Massachusetts on research and development.
