Next-Generation, Smart Home Appliances are Being Developed by LG to Track Sleep

LG Electronics is partnering with ASLEEP, to develop customized next-generation smart home appliances optimized for customers’ sleep conditions.

ASLEEP is a South Korean sleep-tech AI startup that specializes in sleep diagnosis. The company signed an agreement for ‘sleep research cooperation’ that will work to develop new smart home appliances, including refrigerators, TVs, air conditioners and washing machines to integrate ASLEEP’s AI technology that diagnoses sleep stages based on users’ breathing sounds during sleep.

ASLEEP’s technology, users can track four sleep stages — wake, light, deep and rapid eye movement (REM) sleep — using a speaker-equipped device like a smartphone or smart TV. Their technology reports the highest accuracy without wearing wearable devices such as smartwatches. It can detect REM sleep, non-REM sleep, and wake state on average 15% more accurately than industry-leading smartwatches.

ASLEEP will showcase Sleeptrack API, the aggregate of ASLEEP’s proprietary technology to be held in Las Vegas next month. They will present a new sleep environment in collaboration with various IT and home appliances companies at CES 2023 and will showcase its Human-Centric Sleep AI & IoT Ecosystem. LG plans to integrate this technology into other products to manufacture various sleep pattern-tracking devices
