A new trend is suggesting soaking a sponge in a fabric softener solution, then tossing it in your dryer to make a reusable dryer sheet. Seems like it is safe, right? Well it actually could be a disaster waiting to happen.
A woman from Liverpool has spoken out to her local press with a warning about a dangerous cleaning hack will leave your clothes even worse than they went in and may even cause a house fire.
She soaked sponges in fabric softener and water than put in her tumble dryer. In theory she was hoping to replace dryer sheets as a reusable alternative, only while the family was sleeping the dryer hack resulted in a fire.
In general, dryer sheets are used to remove the static from clothes and add fragrant smell to garments. Using a sponge soaked in fabric softener will not dispense the softener evenly throughout garments. This will leave stain marks all over clothes.
Most important reasons you shouldn’t use this tip is; potential staining, melted plastic, and, of course, a house fire.
How can you make clothes smell fresher? Don’t overfill the dryer, spritz lavender water on your clothes before washing them can help fabrics to smell good. Avoid using essential oils because they stain.
