Appliance manufacturers are getting innovative to get consumers to think about upgrading by trying to outdo themselves. Smart features like Wi-Fi, internal cameras, touchscreens and the ability to order colored appliances is readily available. But after a recent patent for a fridge with an internal egg boiler, Haier may be pioneering the next level of features.
The recent patent issued to GE Appliance’s parent company, describes an appliance with an internal system for boiling eggs.
How the process works is: Built into the refrigerator door is the egg boiler. Once the system controller knows the boiler has eggs loaded, it orders hot water into the boiler to cook the eggs. After the eggs are cooked, the cooking chamber is flushed with cooler water to cool the eggs off. An alert is then sent to the user which would open the egg boiler and remove their finished eggs.
This may sound crazy building an egg boiler into a fridge, especially when you can buy an egg boiler for about $20. But, if you’re the type who enjoys hard or soft-boiled eggs regularly this could be a convenient feature. For small kitchens with limited counter space it helps reduce counter clutter.
Haier has been known to file patents for everything. You name it, they file it! Fridges with a cold brew coffee maker to one that dispenses pills, so maybe there’s a chance fridge with an egg maker inside never makes it to the production line.
